#103 | Advérbios além do VERY: RATHER, SLIGHTLY, FAIRLY e muito mais

Adverbs of degree ou advérbios de intensidade são usados para tornar os adjetivos mais ou menos fortes/fracos em suas intensidades.

  • A little / a bit / slightly (um pouco)

The watch I bought was a bit expensive.

Each person learns in a slightly different way.

I’m feeling a little tired.

Observação: Não se usa a little e a bit em inglês mais formal

  • Fairly (relativamente)

Both ships are fairly new.

She speaks English fairly well.

  • Quite (bastante)

He was quite nice.

He was quite a nice person.

  • Rather / pretty (bastante)

(showing surprise) That lesson was rather interesting.

(negative adjectives) It’s rather cold today.

(negative adjectives) She’s rather bossy.

(pretty is less formal) You’re pretty bright for your age, I must admit.

I’m pretty sick of this guy interrupting us while we’re speaking.

  • Very

It feels very cold today.

It’s very kind of you to help.

  • Really

It was really cold last night.

I’m really, really sorry.

I’ve recently watched a really good movie.

  • Extremely

The conference was extremely badly organized.

Earthquakes are extremely difficult to predict.
